The 2nd Annual Frozen In Time Icebike Race
January 21st, 2006
UPDATE: Due to the condition of the original course, we are changing the course to a new spot on the Round Valley Loop. Google or mapquest the new race start address:
3144 Round Valley Way; Park City, UT 84060-7064 US
What: An Individual Time Trial Icebike Race
Where: The
National Abilities Center (NAC), Park City, UT (
Directions)
When: January 21st (
9 am Start). Pre-race meeting at 8:45 am. Please show up early to pick up registration packets.
Why: Because you're crazy and proceeds go to support the
IMBA Trails Program, the NAC and the
Mountain Trails FoundationCost: $20 ($25 day of. Registration begins at 7:30 am)
Categories: Categories will include Male/Female (Expert, Sport, Beginner) and Singlespeed.
Course: The
race course (57 KB) will be on part of the Round Valley trail. The number of laps are currently set at 2 for beginner, 3 for sport and single speed and 5 for expert, but may change depending on weather and snow conditions. Each lap is approx. 2.5 miles. Racers will start in the order of their race number which is assigned in order of their registration (i.e. the earlier you register the earlier you go out). The trail is open for pre-riding at this time, but the snow is still pretty deep. We'll be grooming it and packing it down before the race so stay tuned for more info.
Swag: The sponsors have really stepped up. Tire Chains from
Pit Bull X-treme Gear, hydraulic disc brakes from
Hayes Brakes, tires from
Maxxis, a frame from
Fetish Cycles, sun glasses from
Ryders, goodies from
White Pine Touring and gift certificates from
Spin Cycle and
Brewvies, to name just a few.
Parking: Parking is available in the parking lot of the NAC.
ATTENTION: Early registrants will recieve a bottle of chain lube from
ProGold, the best bike lube in the world! A $7.50 value! Only while supplies last though, so register soon.
Tires: Lots of people have been asking about the approprite type of tire to run. To that I say "Wider is Better". Studs are unnecessary because the track is hard packed snow. Deflate your tires as much as possible, this will widen them and give you more contact with the track. Really knobby is also good, but maybe not as important as surface contact. Want to leave the competition in the dust? Get some
Pit Bull X-treme Gear tire chains and leave nothing but a melted track in your wake. We'll have a few on hand at an event only special price. First come first served.
Ride the Pugsley! White Pine Touring is letting us use their
Surly Pugsleys for the race. For a small fee you can float on the snow with
4 inch wide tires!Track Conditions: Groomed trail.
Raffle!! There will be a raffle held immediately following the awards ceremony. Each registrant will receive a free entry and everyone will have the opportunity to purchase more raffle tickets prior to the awards ceremony.
